I'm sorry.
I’m sorry I bailed on the substack halfway through last year.
Here’s what happened:
2024 was the busiest year of my career and things got so overwhelming that I fell behind on my daily journal. One day became a week, then two, then a month, and suddenly I found myself unable to remember what I did and unable to fill the journal back in. So I gave up trying and focused on the work in front of me.
So I’m going to try again in 2025.
That said, I learned some lessons. So we’re going to do things a little differently.
Small steps every day are easier than a giant leap once a month.
This is applicable to this substack, but also to literally putting down pages. Having multiple projects going at the same time means that if one is delayed, they’re all delayed. There were countless times last year where I wished I would’ve just put down 1 page a day. Those days/pages add up!
Posting about my previous week is not great for confidentiality, so I won’t be doing that anymore!
As I have started to get into higher profile projects and meeting with more ‘known’ companies and people, I have found myself hesitating to post what I’m up to in fear of someone looking over my shoulder. This year I’ll be posting a monthly summary instead of a weekly daily summary. That said, I’ll still be keeping a daily diary, but that’ll just be for me.
I’ve learned more and more of these lessons as I progress and I’d like to be more open about sharing them. So since I won’t be posting every week, I’ll be sharing some lessons I’ve learned or some experiences I’ve had throughout the year. No schedule on these, I’ll post them as they come.
The goal was to keep myself accountable AND to try and give an inside look at what it’s like to be a working screenwriter. So I’m going to try again. I will always try again.
Austin.
BONUS: I’ll try and do a recap of last year’s Q3 and Q4! Lots of things happened that I’d like to share. More soon. xoxo
